Why contrast?

Here are just a few of the many, great benefits the black and white contrasting trend has to offer.

It's effortlessly chic and super wearable.
Black and white is a timeless color combination that never goes out of fashion.  Basically, you don't have to work very hard to look good in black and white.  Also, this trend can transition well from day to night.  A work appropriate black and white outfit can easily be a night out worthy outfit with just a few simple modifications.

It can draw attention to (or away from) a certain part of the body.
Contrasting pieces are great because the patterns created in them can camouflage the imperfections of your body and/or highlight your assets.  For example, having a small section of white material on the top of an otherwise solid black dress can draw the eyes up toward the face.

It can also be very slimming.
Black and white contrasting pieces can be very figure flattering if they are done in the right way.  For example, long, vertical blocks of color can elongate the body, making you appear taller and slimmer.  Also, black panels on the sides of a white dress can give the appearance of a smaller midsection.

It can add visual interest to a garment.
Solid black or white pieces can sometimes feel boring, but a pattern or even a block of the contrasting color can liven up the garment and make it feel fresh.  It gives a little more for the eyes to take in than just a solid color.

It's available at many different price points.
From a $100,000 haute couture gown to a $20 dress at Forever 21, the black and white contrasting trend can be found at a price point suitable to any consumer.

You probably already own it!
One of the best things about this trend is that black and white pieces are a staple in almost everyone's wardrobe.  Trying this trend can be as simple as mixing and matching the black and white tops and bottoms that you already have in your closet.
